If you can answer the following questions, you're ready to tackle the want ads and career fairs. Versions of these questions may also be interview topics so it may be helpful to review these again when preparing for an interview and answer them in relation to the specific job for which you are applying.

Can you clearly state your career goals?

Can you describe your greatest strengths and weaknesses?

Can you list your job skills that relate to your goals?

Have you identified your geographical target area for employment?
5.
Have you joined or looked into any professional associations in accounting?
6.
Have you determined if you want to work in private or public accounting?
7.
Have you identified the area of accounting you would like to practice (auditing, tax, etc.)?
8.
Have you talked to anyone currently working in accounting?
9.
Is your resume targeted to the accounting profession?
10.
Have you asked anyone for feedback on your resume?
11.
Are your cover letters personalized and targeted to the employer?
12.
Are you familiar with the firm/company to which you are applying?
13.
Have you researched current information about the firm/company to which you are applying?
14.
Do you know what questions the employer is likely to ask in an interview?
15.
Can you clearly state why you are interested in working for each employer to whom you apply?
